In northern latitudes, it is known as the auroraborealis, named after the Roman goddess of dawn,Aurora, and the Greek name for north wind, Boreas.

BUT HOW?
Our sun sends a constant stream of chargedparticles, know as the solar wind, into space. Theseenergized particles interact with a protectivemagnetic shield that shrouds our planet.

The charged particles excite oxygen andnitrogen in the atmosphere to create auroras.

DID YOU KNOW?
The Aurora Borealis has a sister. Way downin the southern hemisphere, the Aurora Australisdances radiantly and as beautifully as its sister.
