In 60 Minutes

CAN YOU FEEL IT?

The world has felt the effects of climate
change, from soaring temperatures to
the unpredictable weather elements.

Red Earth

With the devastation that it has unleashed
upon Mother Earth in recent years, what
can one person do about climate change?

---------------------------------------

DID YOU KNOW?

Last year, on March 31st, for exactly an hour,
Sydney made a powerful statement to challenge
global warming, by turning off its lights.

Lights Out In Sydney

This was known as EARTH HOUR.

Created to take a stand against the greatest
threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour
uses the simple action of turning off the lights for
one hour to deliver a powerful message about
the need for action on global warming.

A Global Warning

Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over
2,100 businesses participated in the event and
electricity consumption was claimed to have
been reduced by 10.2% for that hour.

60 MINUTES

What began as one city taking a stand against
global warming caught the attention of the
world, and all it took was just sixty minutes.

60 Minutes

This year, 24 global cities will participate
in Earth Hour at 8pm on March 29.

So, what's the significance of it?

"Earth Hour is the highlight of a campaign to encourage
businesses, communities and individuals to take the
simple steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing
basis. It is about simple changes that will collectively
make a difference – from businesses turning off their
lights when their offices are empty, to homes turning
off appliances rather than leaving them on."
