Singapore Day 2008 in Melbourne

Pictures shall speak.
I know it's kinda late but it is a one-time event held only in Melbourne. The previous Singapore Day in 2007 was held in New York; where popular bloggers or even celebrities were invited. For Melbourne's Singapore Day, we had ol time favs like Phua Chu Kang Family, and some celebrities. Looking at this lil greenery, we see lil' Singapore.....

there are certainly more food, but everything kinda ran out before i could get to them. :(

the layout of the whole event can be found on sgday website.
for this event, the MRT Stations and some popular
hangouts were implemented in the location of each booth.
You feel like Singapore becos you get to see places like:
Dempsey Hill, Chinatown, etc

Yet already, a few months have passed.

Anavil left for home, Monica in Melbourne, Jane and Serr in Perth, then Striders offshore for studies. Everyone's leaving for a lil break from the sunny island. But, I guess, like what serr said, we still heart our home country.

With love,

Iron Chef: Battle Lobster

FOR THE LOVE OF FOOD!

Possessing flair in the culinary arts is
perhaps one of the most respected form of
talent that any one person can possess.

The Culinary Arts

The art of fine cuisine is no mere
child's play, it is taken seriously as an art
form that aims to create magnificent dishes,
tantalizing delicacies and flamboyant cuisines.

Magnificent, Tantalizing, Flamboyant

Let me now introduce you to a venerated
Japanese reality TV cooking show from the
90's that celebrates food in all its glory.

-----------------------------------

WATCH THIS!

Iron Chef was created by FujiTV and hosted by
the eccentric Chairman Kaga on the show, who claims
to be the supreme authority of gourmet cuisine.

Chairman Kaga Of Iron Chef

He was inspired by the culinary arts and
specially constructed the Kitchen Stadium
where chefs from around the world would compete
against chefs from his Gourmet Academy.

The Kitchen Stadium

Four iron chefs lead the institution and
they each specialize in a different kind of cuisine;
Japanese, Chinese, French, and later Italian.

The Iron Chefs

The challenging chefs have one hour to cook
and improvise a multicourse meal around a theme
ingredient that must be present in each dish.

The Iron Chefs Battle!

At the end of the show, each of the chef's creations
are presented a panel of judges who taste the dishes
and award points to the dishes of their liking. The
chef with the greatest score wins the competition.

The Judging Panel

Now, let's start the inaugural entry
to the Iron Chef series with one of my
favourite seafood cuisine, the lobster.

Esteemed chefs, let the battle begin!

-----------------------------------

IRON CHEF: BATTLE LOBSTER
Iron Chef French Hiroyuki Sakai v.s. Challenger Ron Siegel

Iron Chef

Here are the first four parts to this
culinary mêlée where commentators provide
minute-by-minute updates on each chef's
preparation of their respective dishes.

And the highlight of this entry is of course, the
tasting and judging segment of the chefs' creation. Here
you go! Please don't salivate! Thank you very much!

-----------------------------------

AND, SO!

To end this entry, let me leave you with a
quote that perfectly describes this show.

"Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you what you are."

Potatoes And Spaghetti

MMM, OUH LA LA!

One fine evening, Nicole found the
sudden urge to bring her culinary skills up
to scratch and invited a couple of us over to
her apartment as guinea pigs for dinner!

Meet Chef Wan!

If Wan can cook... wait, really ah?

Of course, with the lust of hunger in our eyes
over the FREE FOOD that she was going to
dish out for us, we simply couldn't refuse!

---------------------------------------

SOME HOURS LATER!

As we arrived at the doorstep of her humble
abode, our senses went into overdrive as we
sniffed in the alluring waft that fleeted out of
the kitchen. Mmm, something smelled good!

What are you looking at?

Whey! Don't come in! It's not ready!

Oh bummer! Well, we laid our things down
and chilled for abit before Nicole final hollered
and alas, we weren't the least disappointed.

Just take a look at her tantalizing masterpieces!

Potatoes

MOUTH-WATERING BAKED POTATOES!

Spaghetti

LIP-SMACKING SPAGHETTI TWIRLS

---------------------------------------

YUMMY-YUMMY!

And that my dear readers, was our cue to feast
to our heart's content! Not much words to describe
the following photos. Just food, glorious food.

Dinner I

Dinner II

Dinner III

Dinner IV

And oh, everything was wiped off the
plates at the end of dinner and yeap, there
were gleeful faces all around. Haha!

---------------------------------------

AND, SO!

After dinner, we chilled around
somemore watching the telly and
catching up, especially with Zach!

Chill Time!!!

Oh, and Edison and Derrick were
busy glued to their lappies. Ho-hum!

Derrick Surfing

Edison Dota-ing!

The evening ended fantastically for all
of us and of course, our happy bellies!

Belly Full!!!

See you all belly belly soon =]

Heaven For Breakfast

HEY GUYS!

Has any of you tried the just newly
launched and dare i say, super yummy
McGriddle from McDonald's?

Mmm...

Well, i myself haven't!

-----------------------------------

JUST WAIT A MO!

What's a McGriddle again?

McGriddles is a breakfast sandwich first
introduced at McDonald's back in 2003 and
after much rave reviews, it finally found it's
way onto the shores of Singapore.

The McGriddle

So, what's so special about it?

Well, unlike most muffins, this sandwich now has
maple flavouring injected deep inside its griddle
folds. On top of that, the griddle cake is embossed
with none other than the McDonald's logo!

They're screaming to be eaten!

It comes in 3 delicious variants:

1) Sausage, Egg and Cheese
2) Chicken & Cheese (SEA)
3) Single Sausage Patty

-----------------------------------

So what are you waiting for?

Get your butt off your bed and head
down to your nearest McDonald's and
sink your teeth into a McGriddle now!

Makan Places: Miss Clarity Cafe

DID YOU KNOW?

There was once a time when Levin and
Serene were working for the uber-hip Miss
Clarity Cafe, located off Purvis Street.

Miss Clarity Cafe

The Clique would come down at least
twice a week to gorge down on the delicious
food as well as enjoying the atmosphere.

-----------------------------------------

ANYWAY,

One fine day, Levin suggested having dinner
at Miss Clarity's and before we knew it, we were
back there and reminsicing good times missed!

Here are a couple of photos of us at dinner!

ONE

Edison's laughing at his own jokes... again!

TWO

Levin hasn't eaten in days. Nicole... erm...

THREE

Jovan and his magic tricks... Nicole... ahh...

FOUR

Matthew's trying to concentrate on his food.

Photobucket

And here's all of us, less Jovan and Edric.

-----------------------------------------

FOOD FOR THOUGHT!

Miss Clarity Cafe is the perfect place if you
are looking for a relaxing evening to chill with
your friends. The cafe has a loud and colourful
interior but also a serene ambience to it.

Chicken Ballotine

It serves mainly western cuisine and a whole lot
of other goodies. The Chicken Ballotine is a must
try as well as their shelled appetizers and if you can
stomach it, try the Old MacDonald Had A Farm!

Bread & Butter Puding

For your sweet tooth, try the Mud Ooze or the
Warm Bread & Butter Pudding! Don't forget to
order them all in a set. It's much more worth it!

It's really good, damn good!

War Through Food

WATCH OUT!

There's a major hell of a food fight
going on, and i mean it, literally!

Food Fight

"Food Fight is an abridged history of American-centric
war, from World War II to present day, told through
the foods of the countries in conflict. Watch as traditional
comestibles slug it out for world domination in this
chronologically re-enacted smorgasbord of aggression."

--------------------------------------------------

WATCH THIS!

We should have FOOD FIGHTS! But, then again,
we'll just waste lots of perfectly good food.
