The Spirit Of Muay Thai

THAI BOXING or Muay Thai,
the art of fighting, is part of the
identity of the THAI people.

Muay Thai Yesterday

Its root go back to ancient times in
Thai history, during which SIAM (Thailand)
was at war with its neighbouring countries,
in order to protect its "Golden Land".

Throughout the years warfare tactics and
weaponry changed drastically, but the Muay
Thai tradition ramained unchanged.

Muay Thai Today

--------------------------------------------

MAN first learned how to use the only weapons
he was born with, hands, feet and other parts of his
body, to engage in non-weapon or barehanded
combat in order to defend himself and stay alive
and safe from all the threats around him.

Over time, when life-threatening combat
turned competition over prize and reward, rules
and regulations were created and enforced
to prevent serious injuries.

Once a sheer hostile combat, this
competition became regulated and recognized
as a sporting event called “MUAY.”

YOU WANNA PUNCH IT?

--------------------------------------------

Muay Thai is a martial art that can truly apply
to real life situation both in self-defense and sport.

Thai ancestors had taught and passed on this great
legacy of Muay Thai to younger generations.

Muay Thai. Originally, special skills were only
taught among individuals of noble status from the
top, the king or ruler, down to individuals
of high-ranking military status.

Later, special skills were passed on to the public
or people of common status by individuals who
once served honorably in the Royal Army.

These great warriors went into retirement,
gave up their worldly desires, and entered
monkhood where they spent their time
teaching their students what they knew best.

Since Buddhism had long been Thailand’s
National Religion and Muay Thai were basically
taught by Buddhist monks, a seemingly unbreakable
bond between Buddhism and Muay Thai.

HERE'S THE RING!

--------------------------------------------

MUAY THAI TECHNIQUES

In its original form, Muay Thai consisted of an
arsenal of nine weapons - the head, fists, elbows,
knees and feet - known collectively as na-wa arwud.

Although in modern Muay Thai, both
amateur and professional, headbutting
an opponent is no longer allowed.

Muay Thai is unique in the way it uses all parts
of the body, including the elbows and knees,
for both training and competitions.

Photobucket

--------------------------------------------

CONDITIONING

- Like most competitive full contact
fighting sports, Muay Thai has a
heavy focus on body conditioning.

- Muay Thai is specifically designed to
promote the level of fitness and
toughness required for ring competition.

- Training regiments include many staples
of combat sport conditioning such as running,
shadow boxing, rope jumping, body weight
resistance exercises, medicine ball exercises,
abdominal exercises, and also weight training.

--------------------------------------------

IN TRAINING

--------------------------------------------

Let's thank the boxers. HAHA!

Man, i wann have those fit body!
I'm getting fat!!! Arhhhhhzzzz
7 kg. I've gained.

XP

-the mooon damn nice-
ps. u guys should go and try thai boxing.

Singapore Sports Hub

Three Contenders and 11 months later,
one winner has emerged to build the new

SINGAPORE SPORTS HUB

Singapore Sports Hub

The Singapore Sports Hub Consortium
led by Dragages Singapore Pte Ltd has been chosen
to construct the new National Stadium and
Sports hub at a whopping $ 1.2 billion.

The announcement was made just yesterday
at a press conference by Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan.

----------------------------------

THE FACILITIES

The Facilities

The SPORTS COMPLEX will include a new dome-shaped
national stadium with a retractable roof able to seat
55,000 people, a 6,000-capacity indoor aquatic centre,
an artificial river offering whitewater rafting and
a 3,000-capacity multi-purpose arena.

A WATER SPORTS CENTRE will serve as a venue
for events such as dragon boat racing and canoeing.

The complex will also offer 41,000 square metres
(441,000 square feet) of commercial space
and feature leisure and entertainment facilities.

----------------------------------

THE WINNING BID

The COOL DOME!

The winning design of the Singapore Sports Hub
or better known casually as the "COOL DOME" design.

Compared two the other two designs,
the winning design has a more sleeker definition
as compared to the other two designs.

Main Promenade

The key features of the Cool Dome designs inculde
a retractable roof with an outer membrane that can
display different lighting and colour schemes at night.

Night Time

When the stadium is fully covered, the roof
will be able to act like a giant Imax screen
and images can be beamed into it.

IMAX Screens

A Premier Park has also been proposed to keep the
Sports Hub abuzz all year long with highlights such as an
ASEAN Super League football tournament.

Sports Promenade

An indoor go-karting area with a
mezzanine area will be built and there will be a
white-water rafting facility and also a
water leisure park available for water enthusiasts!

The Waterfront

so cool...

----------------------------------

WHY IT WAS CHOSEN?

Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan

"The Consortium displayed significant strengths in programming,
team culture and partnership, functionality and layout.
It also offered the best value for money solution for Singapore."

- Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan

Ultimately, the consortium's ability to provide
a strong calender of events to keep the Sports Hub buzzing
all year-round was the triumphant factor.

----------------------------------

THE OTHER TWO

The "HORSESHOE" and the "CRUMPLED TISSUE"
designs are the other two contenders that also made
a fiery and impressive bid to win the bid.

Here are some facts about the two designs.

THE HORSESHOE:

The unique design promises stunning views
of the Kallang Basin and the city skyline. It has a
retractable roof that can opened and closed.

A 2.6 km waterfront promenade will offer
vantage points for fans to watch water sports
and a host of shopping and eating options.

Furthermore, a multi-purpose
indoor arena and a sports museum along
with a sports-themed hotel will be built.

THE CRUMPLED TISSUE:

The translucent membrane wrapping the stadium
will provide a softer facade and act as a canvas
for night-time lighting effects.

Its field runs in the north-south direction,
so that the setting sun is not in direct line
of sight for athletes and spectators.

A viewing tower in the Kallang Basin
will offer visitors a unique experience of walking
between two sheets of water, like Moses.

This is also the only design to incorporate a
beachfront area complete with a beach club
and a water sports centre.

----------------------------------

WATCH THIS!

So before i end of this entry, here's a short
video clip of the three sports hub proposals.

p.s. mind the quality of the clip.

----------------------------------

WE REMEMBER

The National Stadium

As we embark on a new journey to transform
Singapore into a world class Sports hub, let us not
forget the National Stadium that has played
an important part in the making of our history.

Thank you.
